Some Spring Fling Tips

Hello Again, It is such a lovely sunny spring day in Chicago. Currently, unwinding at a park, with sunglasses on, a hot tea on the side and my laptop. I came near the lakefront in search for a blog post inspiration. As soon as, the near-by church’s bells sounded off, I was automatically reminded of New York’s Wedding Bridal week. This got me thinking, are their any shows dedicated for the Groomsmen? I know the wedding is a big deal for the bride, but it should also be a big deal for the groom, right?

A few days ago, I got contacted by Jason Bornstein, the Online Media Manager at Bonobos. After a few email exchanges, we decided on an appropriate post for morethanabowtie, after-all, I like to communicate fashionable things to the men and women who read my blog. With Bridal Week wrapping up soon and spring already here. What is more appropriate than a post about suits. Many men think they know about suits, but buying a suit can be tricky if you do not know your body type and how it shall fall on your body.

Fit is the most important detail for a suit. Marry that with classic color options and quality fabric, and you have a great looking, versatile suit for every occasion,” says Dwight Fenton, Bonobos VP of Design.

To the many that are not familiar with Bonobos, they launched in 2007 and is now the largest apparel brand to come from the internet. They have since expanded their business to better service their loyal customers but also attract a new target. For their Spring Suit Collection, Bonobos stuck to their aesthetic of slim-fit without being tight and it is done in lightweight Seersucker and Cotton, truly comfortable for those spring and hot-humid summer events. Inspired by spring weddings, garden parties and mint julep the references are undoubtedly there. I like the color and prints used on the ties and the amazing looking bow ties!! (I want the lime green one!!) The blazers look nice dressed up or down and the trouser fall at the right length. The color palette is fresh and bold. I like the bold choices on trousers. I like to see men outside of the regular black and grey trousers.

The Capstone Slim Grey Linen Tuxedo is a magnificent looking suit. The Capstone suits can be used for those important gatherings. Speaking of tuxedos, Bonobos has a great section called Groomservice dedicated to groom and his party. Set up an appointment to see what they can offer you on your big day.

One more thing, here are Fenton’s simple suit tips to find the right fit:

• Fit starts with the shoulders: The jacket should grab your shoulders snuggly but not be overly tight. If the shoulders fit, pretty much anything else can be adjusted.

• Length matters: To determine the appropriate length, you should be able to cup the bottom of the suit with your arms by your side.

• Show some shirt: A flexible but general rule of thumb is to have a quarter-inch of your shirt cuff showing. If you’re wearing a heavier cuff, like a French cuff, you may want to show a little more.
