Month: October 2014

“You spin me right round..”

Hello again. Been busy over here with life and the grownup stuff. Been so busy that I have not finished reviewing Paris Fashion Week SS15. I need to make time, it’s been over for weeks.

Sunglasses is an accessory that everyone should own. It does not matter if it costs you $10 or $700, depending on the brand you get. This accessory is a must, it’s a staple, it’s iconic whether you’re into fashion or not. Having bought some Gucci one’s for this past summer, I am loving the round sunglasses frames.

As the famous saying goes, “one’s an incident,  two’s a coincidence and three is a pattern.” That is a rule trend forecasters use when identify a trend. The round sunglasses has been spotted on Kenzo’s SS13 men’s runway and on both spring and fall 2014 shows.

For SS15 the trend is on full swing. Showing up throughout Men’s Fashion Shows at a global scale. Orley sported some funky lens with sunglasses but still kept the round frames looking clean and modern. The trend has already made it onto the TV screen. Fox’s Gotham, a show about DC comics famous Batman city, villain Oswald Cobblepot is sporting a unique shaped round frame sunglasses. Believe me when I say many men will be walking around next summer with round sunglasses.

Vogue on the Runway.

Day two of Latino Fashion Week was an amazing day. This year the people behind LFW hosted a luncheon “For the Sophisticate” women 35 years and older. The turnout was amazing something they were not expecting. It was an amazing luncheon of women empowering each other through discussing topics, beauty seminars and a runway show.

The nights theme was Curvy Women. It is a night dedicated to curvy woman’s fashion because the majority of latinas are curvy. This theme has been growing strong on its third year. Each year this particular event keeps growing and it’s an amazing experience to experience. These woman rocked the runway better and sexier than your average industry model. These curvy models loved the clothes, loved the audience’s energy and had so much confidence you couldn’t help but notice.  This is an event that the creators of LFW are most likely going to expand throughout the years,  without a doubt.

Ruth Diaz showed a day wear collection for the busy sophisticated woman. Her dresses can take you from the office to a night out for drinks. Cocktail dress could all be dressed up or down.

Beyond Exceptional

October is such a great time for many things. It wraps up the fashion world collections from 4 countries. All showcasing the amazing things they will offer for Spring/Summer 2015.

Last night, October 1st, kicked off Latino Fashion Week in Chicago. What an amazing event to start of Hispanic Heritage Month in the city. This is my third year attending this annual event that showcases Latino designers local and internationally. The theme being “Beyond Exceptional” was well in its right showcasing some amazing collections.

Well will start with Vela Boutique and Vintage Soul Customs. A collection that seemed a bit out of context but at the same time worked in many different levels. Mixing her native culture with streetwear inspired styling. My favorite were the separate pieces, the head gear showed amazing craftsmanship.

Iridium was the second brand showing a collection. I happened to walk into their boutique, located on Block Thirty Seven, before finding out that these local designers were showing for fashion week. I like their grunge-punk aesthetic of design. They do a lot of unisex garments raging from trousers,  tunics, sweaters and jackets. This collection seemed a bit Hood By Air, the thing HBA lacks is that Chicago thug streetwear vibe.

Jimmy Guzman brought out the dapper chicness for the night. Showing a collection that brings the man from day to night without it being fussy. Mainly an accessories designer showing ties, bowties and floral pins, he also took the initiative to show us some bags and menswear he is adding to the brand. Jimmy Guzman may be a successful lawyer turned designer or simply designs to unwind, whatever the case may be he knows what men want.
