the Oscar Goes To…

“What time to be alive!”, is the thing I said when Faye Dunaway and Warren Beatty named the wrong movie for the Best Picture category on last night’s Academy Awards Oscar Ceremony. I also thought, “Why is Warren looking confused? Is he “losing” his mind right in front of the world?” Yet, as Faye said the name, the ruckus started behind them and Moonlight was the rightful winner of the category.

I never imagined such thing could ever happen at the Oscar’s. I know I wished it a couple of times, ¬†especially those times Joaquin Phoenix, Amy Adams should’ve taken the award. Besides that incident, the show was pretty much hilarious. I think Jimmy Kimmel did a good job and his feud with Matt Damon was great to see play out, even on this platform that is being viewed around the world.

Now to the dresses. The real reason we watch such an event. A lot of color and strap gowns. This year, I wasn’t impressed with the dresses, maybe because some of the celebrities make their obvious choices of what Brand or Designer they’re going to wear. Like Dakota Johnson wearing that champagne long sleeve Gucci gown. Which I thought it was pretty but the front bow needed to go. On the Gucci runway, it was this rich violet color, lovely, but for this purposes, the champagne color worked great for Dakota.

For this recap/post, I don’t have a ranking. I’m just doing a top three looks for both men and woman.

Mahershala Ali looked fabulous and showed us the right way to wear black in multiple layers. Dressed in Ermenegildo Zegna Couture, the three-piece suit, shirt, and bowtie were great and loved the checkered color pocket piece. Very minimalist but spot on and on trend.

Riz Ahmed, which you may or may not know of him, is on the latest Netflix hit show The OA. Recently on HBO’s Girls and as a supporting cast in Star Wars: Rogue One among other things. Also dressed by Ermenegildo Zegna Couture, yet opted for a one button suit. This suit looks so crisp, perhaps is the blue hue that makes me think that but it looks young and fresh. Complete with a white shirt and a satin bow tie was all it need to complete the look.

To wrap up the men’s wear, here are BFF’s and Avengers actors Chris Evans and Jeremy Renner. Looking dapper and sexy is Chris Evans in a blue Salvatore Ferragamo. While Jeremy Renner is a classic black tux Hugo Boss. Blue suits/tux seems to be the staple in Chris’ wardrobe, he’s worn this look a few times, playing with the hues each time. The slim fit cobalt blue works with the black lapel and bow tie. It looks good on him.

Janelle Monae has certainly made me realize how much I love fashion. Not only fashion but gowns, red carpet events and the appreciation for Haute Couture. Dressed in Eli Saab, the master of embellishment. I loved this dress, and yes it is the #1 on my top dressed list because it is different when everyone played it safe. The dress seems a bit Baroque yet modern for today’s wearing. The jeweled top, I preferred a bit well balanced yet the asymmetry of it worked. Can’t wait to see what she does next.

Ruth Negga looked very gypsy in the red Valentino long sleeve gown. It worked for her and it moved elegantly on the red carpet.

Naomie Harris white Calvin Klein by Appointment white ensemble was fresh and new for this company. This is obviously Raf Simmons doing yet it did look stunning on Naomie the train on the dress was the appropriate length and I wasn’t crazy about the weird matching shoes but yet it worked.

Grammy’s

Hello, to all who are reading, following and who sporadically drop by. I know that I am inconsistent but I, with all sincerity, Do Love Blogging. I have set date, times and topics to keep my blogging consistent this year. I have a lot on my plate, marketing wise but I still feel that I have to my passions.

I have missed some really Men’s wear important dates but I shall recap them in a later post. I have also missed a couple of Red Carpet events, yet some of the fashions seemed to be a bit overwhelming this award season. The Grammy’s however, has sprung back fashion interest, to me at least.

The top on my list is Blue Ivy, beating out some of fashion’s¬†heavy hitters. Yes, Blue Ivy. When you’re the love child of Beyonce and Jay-Z, you’re going to be spoiled and wear the latest dubs that money can buy. With that said, Bleu Ivy looked amazing in a custom pink Gucci pantsuit a la Prince. the $3,500.00 toddler suit is the latest craze from the new Gucci. I have said it before it is not my favorite but I think this particular outfit was great.

Paris Jackson is the second on my list with her Balmain gown, Nicholas Jonas was in head to toe Balmain as well. Paris is all grown up and has been seen making her rounds during Paris Men’s Fashion Week. Paris was spotted at the Balmain and Givenchy shows, as well as the Chanel Couture show. I like the dress, from the color to the silhouette and the fit of it. I am sure there will be more to come from this wonderful child.

Adele wraps up my list with her green embroidered Givenchy Haute Couture gown. I like that she’s using color than her usual black dresses. Her red top and black skirt ensemble was great as she sang Hello during the opening of the Grammy’s. We hope her stylist keeps her fashion evolving give us more change.
