Grammy’s

Hello, to all who are reading, following and who sporadically drop by. I know that I am inconsistent but I, with all sincerity, Do Love Blogging. I have set date, times and topics to keep my blogging consistent this year. I have a lot on my plate, marketing wise but I still feel that I have to my passions.

I have missed some really Men’s wear important dates but I shall recap them in a later post. I have also missed a couple of Red Carpet events, yet some of the fashions seemed to be a bit overwhelming this award season. The Grammy’s however, has sprung back fashion interest, to me at least.

The top on my list is Blue Ivy, beating out some of fashion’s heavy hitters. Yes, Blue Ivy. When you’re the love child of Beyonce and Jay-Z, you’re going to be spoiled and wear the latest dubs that money can buy. With that said, Bleu Ivy looked amazing in a custom pink Gucci pantsuit a la Prince. the $3,500.00 toddler suit is the latest craze from the new Gucci. I have said it before it is not my favorite but I think this particular outfit was great.

Paris Jackson is the second on my list with her Balmain gown, Nicholas Jonas was in head to toe Balmain as well. Paris is all grown up and has been seen making her rounds during Paris Men’s Fashion Week. Paris was spotted at the Balmain and Givenchy shows, as well as the Chanel Couture show. I like the dress, from the color to the silhouette and the fit of it. I am sure there will be more to come from this wonderful child.

Adele wraps up my list with her green embroidered Givenchy Haute Couture gown. I like that she’s using color than her usual black dresses. Her red top and black skirt ensemble was great as she sang Hello during the opening of the Grammy’s. We hope her stylist keeps her fashion evolving give us more change.

When I Went to Puerto Rico

Hello Everyone… Like every post, I make promises to keep blogging, to be honest, it is a sincere and I mean it as I type it. Life gets in the way and I prefer to relax upon getting home from work. Yet, I will try and post something weekly either morning while drinking my coffee or at night when I another cup of coffee.

This post is dedicated to my business trip to San Juan, Puerto Rico. This was back in March and the many reasons I have been so busy and away from morethanabowtie. I have never been anywhere outside on the US land, so I excited for this trip. The purpose of this trip was to oversee the launch of my boss’ and his business partner cosmetic line, as well as launching other marketing tools in Puerto Rico.

I was excited to just be somewhere sunny and above 45 degree Chicago weather in early spring. I was excited to see what took us six months to conceive come to life. Hernan Rivera, is owner of Sin Cosmetics and Hernan Rivera Beauty as well as owner of many pageant contest in Illinois, Indiana and Michigan. Once a Chanel Cosmetic Regional manager, this man knows his makeup. I also found out we’re both alumni from IADT. So, I was excited to be part of this launch and oversee the project. Puerto Rico was also our platform to launch iBlossom and Keepsake, two apps that are changing the way we market our brands, engage with our audience and how we share our personal moments.

Our launch was to coincide with Ivelisse Nieves jewelry runway show Olé…Morena. I met Ivelisse 2 years ago at Latino Fashion Week 2014. She presented amazing jewelry pieces as models graced tasteful swimwear. For Spring/Summer 2016 Ivelisse looked at Plaza de Toros in Sevilla, Spain for inspiration. Spain is evidently a major influence in Puerto Rico’s Viejo San Juan neighborhood. It is a major tourist spot, I loved it and the Spanish architecture all around. The jewelry, as always, was impeccable adorned with lace and ruffles. This time around the garments were designed by her close friend Juan Colón, a brilliant designer. His designs were spot on Spanish, at times being too literature yet it is a show after all.

Until Next Time!

Le Homme.

What a fantastic time for menswear. Parisian designers really brought luxury to the forefront. Wether it was with rich textiles or tailoring, the Parisian Autumn/Winter 2016 season will be great.

Rick Owens! What can I say about Rick? This collection was still Rick Owens in that he is pushing the boundaries of what is menswear, not only in Paris but elsewhere. Yet, at the sometime this was tailored magnificently. And not that he does not tailor his apparel but for this season it was more evident. I have love Rick Owens and his menswear, it is truly something that I will wear. It was brilliant.

White Mountaineering, showed a collection at Pitti Uomo and for Paris they showed their own brands collection. This was very rugged, yet wearable. It was plaids, boots and outwear done wonderfully. Very fashion forward, definitely been put on my radar.

Kris Van Assche for both his line and Dior Homme, were in harmony. Van Assche has separated his own aesthetic to Dior’s. For AW16, Van Assche injected some of his own DNA in the Dior Homme collection. For me it worked on many levels. It was young and edgy but at the sometime very Dior. You should check it out.

Dries Van Noten has been a favorite of mine for years. I might be a bit biased when it comes to reviewing his collections but I just think he is that good. This season for his menswear, Van Noten takes inspiration from military with  a little bit baroque infused with art. I like the coats they were decorated but this masculine. And that is what it was, a very masculine collection above all the decorations, textiles and silhouettes. This was a magnificent collection.

Faith Connexion was put on my radar this season. This brand is helmed by Christophe Decarnin who was the designer before Olivier Rousteing at Balmain. Deccarin is taking his grunge approach into something great and fashion forward. It is not for everyone but seeing something like this among all the great Parisian fashion is great. It is put together and very fashionable.

Sacai and Lavin were great as well.

This is London, Baby…

Hello again. I know that with every entry I start to write I promise to make time and write something once a week. Truth is, marketing life keeps taking over my social life and work never ends. As I saw my schedule for this week and next two weeks, I wonder when will I have time for ME?!! They thing I’ve learned is that time management is your bff. Let’s  see how that works out for me.

It is time for fashion. Collection season, model mayhem and behind the scene shots. It is London Collections: Men time. More specifically Men’s Spring/Summer 2016 collections. We’ve been seeing some amazing work so far, it is only day 2, and we still have the big brand heavy hitters still left to be showcased. I am going to around up two days of fashions in this post.

Lou Dalton has been one of my favorites, a brand I always look forward to see what her Man will evolve too next. After an amazing Fall/Winter 2015 collection I expected the bar to be even higher and did Dalton delivered. It was a collection that reminisced 90’s fashions. It was  an hommage to windbreakers and nylon but done in Madras and Prince of Wales that made it look fresh and modern, no other way to explain it. It was a utilitarian with pockets on tops nicely paired with short and tailored pants. It was a cool collection with color, idea and accessibility.

Hardy Amies is a hit or miss for me. Although, Hardy Amies is a well established and well-tailored brand sometimes they bore me. For spring/summer 2016 head designer Mehmet Ali looked at 2001: Space Odyssey  and for what you wear to travel or go on a journey as inspiration. There were hints or aviation, astronaut wear done in subtle colors and in cuts that are classic modern. It was styled nice, it was wearable and it is chic.

Coach did a full length fashion show for their menswear. A chic 60’s inspired collection that celebrated a decade full of boy bands and amazing fashion. Stuart Vevers celebrated the young 60’s kids growing up and showcased a young and modern collection. Amazing outerwear, sealing sandals and patchwork messenger bags played nicely with psychedelic prints in bright orange, greens and hints or violet. Great first collection from many more to come.

YMC is a brand that I usually just skim through. Only worthy of a Pin or two. Yet, for SS2016 they happen to be themselves but refined. It was the separates, the bomber jackets, the gemstone color jades and blues that made me take a second look at this collection. It was simple without being overly designed. It was wearable in away that everything that came down the runway can be imagined in your closet. This is not an over the top brand, it showed today and it showed that they should be taken serious.

random yet still fashionable

Hello, my fellow readers, bloggers and followers. It’s been about a few weeks since my last post. I miss this. The Blogging. The communication. The feeling of just typing. Fashion is something that I have been out of touch for a bit. I have put all my hobbies, likes and what makes me ME in the back burner. And for what? For a job that takes up too much of my time and I have nothing to show for. I guess that is life, right? No, it shouldn’t. The saying is true of  “We are our worst enemies.” I’ve been guilty of that. Mostly because of self-doubt and trying to “make it on my own” when I had no clue where to start.

But I have promised my self in the beginning of the year that this year was all about me. I promised to take an actual vacation, London is in the works for September. I promised to blog some more, this I will try the hardest to do. And finally, I promised myself to take any and all career opportunities that come my way.

So, with that said, I think I have finally found what I have been looking for, career wise that is. I am overlooking 4 on going fashion projects and meeting designers and giving them feed back. I think I am way over my head for this position but I know I can do it. I will keep you posted on this exciting career path I am embarking on.

Now for some Men’s Fashion. I have a friend who went to Tokyo and was astonished by their fashion sense. She experienced it while I only saw pictures and blog posts of such amazing fashion. I have admired Tokyo fashion for a while now. Their minimalism is astonishing and the way they layer always looks new and fresh. I happen to be following Ato Matsumoto a very contemporary yet street wear brand. I like the black from jersey to leather pants. I was styled magnificently that I makes me want to be lose some weight. Trust me I am trying!!

Another brand is Patchy Cake Eater. They have a way of taking that women’s tailor feel but giving it a masculine touch. They showed patch work outer wear that looks so stylish without being home-made. Their urban wear was on point. giving the Tokyo man options.
